Hostal Casa Garza

We stayed at Casa Garza Hostal in early December 2025, and the experience was only okay. We arrived in the evening. The staff, who seemed like teenagers and didn’t look keen to be there, showed us to our room. The bedding wasn’t clean, and there was hair on the sheets. There was men’s pubic hair scattered across the shower floor, and neither the room nor bathroom floors had been dusted or mopped. When we raised the cleanliness problems, a staff member insisted the room had been cleaned and checked by his manager before we arrived. That wasn’t true, given the state we found it in. We asked to speak with his boss, but he kept saying she wasn’t available. The best offer they could make to sort things out was free laundry worth 300 pesos. After 20 minutes of going back and forth, while we were completely wrecked, we finally reached the manager. Only after we said we’d take it up with booking did her tone change dramatically. She had the room cleaned for the night we arrived and upgraded us to a cleaner, nicer room for the following day and night. Management, thank you for admitting that you and the cleaning staff were at fault and that you hadn’t checked the rooms thoroughly before letting paying guests in. Thanks for the upgrade too. We wouldn’t come back or recommend it to anyone.

The breakfasts were awesome, and the dorms were clean and quiet. I haven’t stayed in a hostel for years, but this stunning place felt like a haven from busy Merida while still being central to everything.

My bed was right beside the road, so trucks, buses, motorbikes, and other traffic were really noisy. I couldn’t get Wi-Fi from the bed, and the pools could use more frequent cleaning. Even so, it’s a great hostel, though a bit of a walk to Centro. The rooms themselves are great, with bed blinds, lights, and comfortable beds. They clean the place daily, and the breakfast is great.

Breakfast was a real highlight, with a fresh all-you-can-eat buffet that changes each day. There’s also a cute turtle outside and a nice pool area. We stayed in a clean, nicely decorated private dorm in a beautiful hostel. The staff were absolutely lovely and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They offered lots of suggestions, were attentive, and never made us feel rushed when we asked questions or took in the information. Thank you so much, from Emilio and Maddie.
