Casa Tenancingo by Kukun

Breakfast was the highlight: excellent, filling, and made to order. The neighborhood is very quiet and felt extremely safe, with plenty of places for food and coffee nearby. It’s close enough to busier areas, and I recommend using the Ecobici bike rental system. The rooms and beds were comfortable enough for the price, though nothing special. The shower could be frustrating: it takes about five minutes for hot water to arrive, then it gets boiling, with little way to find a warm setting. The temperature seemed to switch between cold and too hot. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We were looking forward to checking in because of the positive reviews, but the hotel and room looked nothing like the photos. The bathroom was filthy, with human feces smeared on the toilet handle. The room was freezing with no way to adjust the temperature, and the shower barely worked. After three hours of discussing it with reception, we were promised a full refund so we could move to another hotel. No one at reception spoke any English. We later learned they had denied the refund even though we checked out that same day, keeping the money for a full week’s reservation. The most dishonest and worst hotel experience of my life.

The room was freezing, with no way to adjust the temperature and no heating or cooling. There was no carpet, which made the cold feel even worse. The shower was awful too, with very weak pressure and water that swung between scalding and freezing. We first tried to settle in, then noticed human feces smeared on the toilet handle. When we called housekeeping, the cleaner used the same washcloth on the sink, toilet, and floor. We were shocked, but exhausted and hungry, so we went out to get food and regroup. Once we came back, it was clear we couldn’t stay. The hotel spent three hours acting like it was working on a solution, then lied about giving us a full refund. It was so late that we gave up and left, disgusted by both the room and how we were treated. This was a full-blown nightmare, and if I could give zero stars, I would. Avoid this place.

The staff were wonderful, and breakfast cooked to order in the courtyard was a nice surprise. I landed in town on standby and had to find somewhere for the weekend, feeling a bit nervous since it was my first time in CDMX. This turned out to be a great find. The location in Condessa is great, with shops and restaurants all around. The room felt like the Four Seasons after a night near the airport, easily as good as a mid-range US hotel, maybe even better.
