Galanga Thai House

The seafood platter was great, and the curry had good flavor, though the beef was really tough. The restaurant was empty when we arrived, with more servers than diners, but service was painfully slow. It took almost an hour for the food, and we had to ask several times for almost everything: menus twice, another bottle of water three times, and the check three times. My wife's main dish and mine also came out at different times.

We liked some of it and not all of it. The mango sticky rice was very good, and the tom yam soup tasted authentic and was delicious. The fried rice was a letdown, though: it arrived lukewarm, bland, and strangely arranged, with the rice in the middle and the other ingredients around it. The place itself is nicely decorated, with lots of plants.

The service left us feeling overlooked. Our waiter barely checked on us or refilled our water, while nearby tables seemed to get much more attention. The noodles were so salty we couldn't really eat them, though I appreciated that they took them off the bill. The restaurant looks beautiful and has a great atmosphere. The green curry was good, but not much better than my usual Thai place back home, which costs half as much. For a Michelin-star restaurant, I expected better food and service.

I left very disappointed with Michelin's recommendation. The Pad Thai was really good, and the fried pork belly was good, but the meal was nowhere near worth the price. Service was poor, the wait was excessive, and some dishes arrived cold while others had little flavor. We got there around 6:30, as shown in the screenshot, and left close to 8:30. We spent the final 15 minutes eating and paying, so most of the nearly two hours was waiting. We ordered three dishes, which came 30 minutes, one hour, and an hour and a half after ordering. Since we were hungry, we ate the first one as an entree while waiting for the rest. The second had to go back to the kitchen to be reheated. The last was cold, and the meat's texture made it seem like it had been ready 20-30 minutes before anyone brought it out. In all that time, staff asked only once whether we wanted more water or anything else. When we asked for the bill, we also requested water because we'd eaten something spicy, but never got the refill. We'd had just one refill of their tiny glasses in almost two hours. I wish the bill had arrived as quickly as the food didn't. The spicy rice with steak had okay steak flavor but was cold and rubbery. The rice was spicy, but tasted like little beyond the chile, and the egg was overcooked and cold. The pork belly wasn't worth $30 USD, especially given the rest of the meal.
