Hotel Max

A clean, spacious room with a decent bathroom, and good value for the money.

My room was very clean, and the staff were kind and ready to help.

The place is listed on Booking as hotel max, but it's actually a motel. On Saturday night, a noisy neighbor had three prostitutes over until late, and reception didn't do anything about the noise. The rooms are large, but the toilet wouldn't flush right, water leaked from the shower door, and the sheets had cigarette holes even though smoking is said to be forbidden. There's barely any ventilation because the window is tiny. The neighborhood also didn't feel pleasant to walk around. Uber drivers and one of the shops across the street warned us it wasn't safe.

We expected less after reading some reviews, but ended up cancelling our other booking and staying the whole week. The room and bathroom were huge, clean, and in pretty good condition, with marble, granite, and tile. The bathroom had no smell, strong water pressure, and properly hot water. The bed was enormous, and nothing from nearby rooms disturbed us. Even with the windows open, the room stayed quiet on this fairly calm street. The view was a highlight for me: most rooms are bright, with big windows looking out over CDMX and the surrounding mountains. I loved having windows facing outside instead of an interior wall or hallway. You can adjust the warm white lights individually too, so it doesn't feel like an interrogation room under cold, bright spots. The purple decor is a matter of taste. We found it funny, especially with a Prince song on, and the mirrors and playful furniture made us laugh too. The manager was very accommodating and spoke English. Check-in and checkout were quick and easy, with no questions asked. The location worked well for us, on a quiet street with plenty nearby. Central spots and restaurants felt closer than I'd expected, and the subway and ecobici rental bikes are just down the road. There's no restaurant or breakfast, but that's fair for the price. They have snacks and drinks, free water in the rooms, and a room service menu we didn't try. Reception is open 24/7, and the free garage is a real bonus if you have a rental car, saving the hassle of parking and security. Once you accept that it's kind of a Love-Hotel, it's a great deal. We'll definitely make it our CDMX home next time.
