Hotel San Fernando

There’s a lounge on the first floor, and the loud music carries through the lobby along with the receptionists’ voices at all hours. That’s the only downside. The hotel itself is a charming 1940s place beside Parque Mexico, in a walkable neighborhood with plenty of food nearby. Nam Curry next door was delicious, as was Churrero el Morro around the corner. Our room was spacious and adorable. Breakfast is free and simple, but the staff were always happy to warm the muffins and bring coffee once it was ready. I’d definitely stay again.

The worst part was how the staff handled the promises they made. We were offered a room upgrade for the next day if we stayed one night without air conditioning, but the upgraded room wasn’t ready. After waiting, at 5pm they said it had been given to someone else. We asked for a one-night refund or another solution, and got none, just an offer of complimentary drinks. At checkout they refused any refund and tried to charge us for those drinks. I could have lived with no air conditioning, but not the false promises. Even the manager took no responsibility and had no solution. I’d expected more from the staff, especially now that Hotel San Fernando is part of Hyatt. I’d been excited to stay here, but was told on arrival that our particular room had no air conditioning, despite being told it would. Our reservation was refundable, so we asked to cancel and go elsewhere. That’s when they made the upgrade offer. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

We finally left the property and got the fees refunded through Hyatt. The hotel may have a great location, but the beds are hard and cheap, the walls are so thin you hear everything, and the staff were dishonest. This was a miserable stay, nowhere near luxury, more like a glorified hostel. Its Michelin Key only discredits the guide. They first put us in a room they knew had no AC, then made us wait two hours to move. The elevator wasn’t working, so we carried all our luggage up to the fifth floor, where the King Suite with Kitchenette we’d booked had been downgraded to a small standard room. They said there were no other rooms. After we insisted they figure something out, they found another room on the fourth floor, the one shown in the photos. Their website showed three rooms available that evening, but they had nothing else to offer until I got upset.

The staff are kind and attentive, and there’s a lovely lounge and bar on the bottom floor. They only give you one key, an actual physical key. The continental breakfast has pastries, coffee, fruit, and yogurt. I’d stay again. Keep in mind there’s no elevator and no rooms on the bottom floor. As of February 2026, the fourth and fifth floors have AC. Floors two and three have wall units that aren’t operational yet. I was told they should work within a few weeks or months.
