Hotel Villa Del Mar

The room was small, but spotless, and the bathroom had plenty of space. The front desk staff were helpful, though they spoke only Spanish. It’s quiet and feels secure here, and the Metro Bus stop is just a block away with a direct route to Reforma. Mercado Beethoven is a couple of blocks away, with good, affordable food, fruit, and juice stalls. This isn’t one of the trendier areas popular with millennials, so the usual nighttime precautions for Mexico still apply. For the airport, ask about the hotel taxi service to avoid the pricey independent taxis.

The only good thing I found was the free parking. The hotel is in an unwelcoming area, and the room smelled unbearable. The bed was like a rock, the bathroom smelled bad and wasn’t clean, and they left one partly clean towel for two guests. There was no service, the walls were so thin we could hear noises all through the hotel, and the free WiFi barely worked. We left after sitting there for 20 minutes trying to decide what to do, but they didn’t refund us. There’s no airport transportation either. I’d give it zero stars if I could. Saving money isn’t worth this, don’t book it.

I stayed on the third floor at hotel Villa Del Mar from August 9-16th, 2019. The cleaning staff kept my room spotless and perfectly stocked, and helped whenever I needed something. The hotel was clean and economical, with good staff and a very good price. Bus and metro stops are nearby. I’d happily recommend it and would come back on another visit.

I spent five nights there, and rooms were being rented by the hour. This didn’t feel like a place for families. The hotel is next door to places associated with drugs, human trafficking, prostitution, and robbery. If you’re staying in cdmx, I’d choose a hotel or hostel downtown, which feels safer than this area.
