Roso Guest House seemed like just my kind of place since its core idea matches what I value on trips: small luxury hotels. When I arrived, I found a pretty little boutique hotel, but not the five-star experience I had paid for. There was no coffee machine or hot water in the room. Breakfast had only five plate choices, and there weren't enough seats for everyone at once. Towels weren't changed, so I had to use a wet one for four days. The wardrobe was in the bathroom, leaving many of my clothes a bit damp. In room 102, a bulb in the middle of the window let light into the room even with the curtains closed. I'd call Roso a three-star plus place at most, maybe four stars, but nowhere near five. The staff were marvelous, very sympathetic and helpful, which really stood out against the hospitality overall. I might return someday to see whether it lives up to the five-star rating on the sites.

The location is great, the staff are friendly, the art is nice, and breakfast is good. But if you get a room in the back wing, don't count on quiet. The metal staircase to the rooms and rooftop terrace carries every footstep, and people talking there are loud too. My room, 102, was above the kitchen. Some kind of industrial fan kicked in during the night, and cooking smells came in very early in the morning. I'd insist on the other wing. At this luxury price, I expected much better.

I've traveled around the world for 15 years and rarely write reviews, but Roso Guest House won me over. The service is what makes it special. From the moment you arrive, you can feel the staff's kindness, and if you ask for something they can manage, they'll do it. The young team is refreshing, and the service is excellent around the clock. Housekeeping was the best I've ever had, too. I've stayed several times, and the hotel kept improving with each visit until it came close to perfection for me. Its location in the heart of Roma is absolutely perfect, the house is gorgeous, and it's a real piece of art. Roso is a little paradise amid the beautiful madness of Mexico-City: unique, quiet, gorgeous, with care for small details in every corner. Appreciate the substance of an original colonial house and enjoy your time there. Staying here will make you fall in love.

The people were nice and did their best to help, and the location is great, but the rest was just OK. The rooms have no temperature control. They put a small space heater in mine, but it was too small, and heating the room took hours. There's no ceiling fan or AC, so I imagine summer would be hot. A hotel calling itself luxury should have temperature control. The walls are thin, so it's not good for light sleepers, and the rooms have no windows to the outside. I like waking up to morning light, and here the room felt like a dark box. The hard pillows, worn and stained furniture, and decorative bed pillows and runners also bothered me. I don't like those extras on the bed if they aren't washed between guests. Breakfast was bad: sugary kids' cereal like frosted flakes, processed grocery-store sliced bread, Chobani yogurt, and fruit. The fruit was good, but there was no protein included. Two eggs cost $13USD, which is ridiculous. With so many good bakeries in the neighborhood, I don't understand why they don't buy decent bread. There's no shared space to relax, either, so you're left in the dark room. The staff were nice, but I wouldn't return.

The staff were so lovely that they felt like an instant extended family. The authentic hacienda is beautiful, with a modern wing added in a great neighborhood. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. I can't wait to return.
