I stayed for over a week and always felt safe and comfortable. The dorm was quiet and dark, with a decent bed, clean bedding and a roomy locker. San Pueblo is a wonderful budget hostel, a no-nonsense, family run local business with high quality service and no frills. For my taste, it was absolutely perfect, and I wish every hostel were like this. The historic building's common areas aren't fancy, but they're more than satisfactory: decent WiFi, cool murals, a secure entrance, hot showers, clean bathrooms, a marvelous terrace and sitting areas, fresh drinking water always available, and a very well-equipped kitchen. There isn't a receptionist, but there's a bell. The hostess answered my phone call right away when I arrived and was easygoing about my repeated extensions. It's a few blocks from the central plaza, with a beautiful view of the nearby basilica. The hostess is a hard-working, laid-back local businesswoman who pays close attention to what guests need. Her lovely family and sweet pets make the place feel special. I was amazed by how affordable it was.

The terrace up top was lovely, with a nice view over the city, and the price is budget friendly. The double rooms get extremely hot at night because there are no windows. A fan is provided and helps a little, but doesn't take the heat away. The kitchen was a bit dirty and had a few bugs, though it was still usable. I'd recommend it if you're looking for a budget hostal in Oaxaca.

I spent a week here and the owners were always, and I mean always, really nice. They pointed us to good places with affordable prices without trying to steer us toward friends or anything like that. They also explained in detail which cheapest colectivos to take for different trips. They were amazing, and the hostel was clean, nice and one of the cheapest.

I had a private room and they were really nice about leaving me alone when I wanted some privacy. They let me bring my dog, who even made friends with the hostel's little dog. The showers had hot water and the wifi worked fine. It's not far from Centro, with plenty of good food vendors nearby and two Oxxo stores within four blocks on the same street. I felt comfortable with a key to my room and another for the locked hostel entrance. I'd definitely stay again.

For $10, I couldn't ask for much more: it's central, clean and safe, and the shower has hot water. I had a private room that was tiny but fine for a couple of nights. There's no window in the room, but the rooftop terrace is a nice place to relax. A cat and a dog live here too!
