La Casa Carlota

Our two-day stay at the end of the trip was relaxing, and the rooms were comfortable and well cared for. The staff were professional, and the place has the feel of a boutique bed and breakfast where you’re always aware you’re in Oaxaca. The house rules are very specific, but that didn’t take away from the stay. The location is unusual, right beside an old aqueduct and just up the street from Santo Domingo. Our room had sliding glass in place of a door, so sound carried easily through the halls. It wasn’t a deal-breaker, but you might prefer somewhere else if you want more privacy.

We had a comfortable, clean room and enjoyed the good breakfast during our week here. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I’d definitely recommend it.

We accidentally rented all five rooms at Casa Carlota, and it turned out to be a happy surprise. The rooms have a simple, beautiful design, with thoughtful details that make them feel relaxing and homey. After long days walking around Oaxaca, the shower’s great water pressure felt wonderful. Each room also had a mini split that was quiet, cool, and perfect for a good night’s sleep. The staff made the stay unforgettable. They looked after us warmly and attentively, without ever hovering, and I truly felt like part of the family. Breakfast was comforting and made with love. We tried dishes we probably wouldn’t have found on our own. In the evenings, we liked to unwind with a drink and good conversation on the rooftop, listening to the city below. Thank you, Casa Carlota, for making Oaxaca even more special. We’re already thinking about coming back.

The hotel is beautiful and recently remodeled. We stayed at hotel ayook for the first half of the trip and liked it, but the rooms here are bigger, with a huge bathroom and shower, a coffee maker, and even an iron. The rooftop and location are great, and we’ll definitely stay here again. There is construction nearby, but the hotel can’t control that, and it doesn’t happen at night. It’s disappointing that some people rated the hotel poorly because of the construction. Why be in your room during the day when there’s such a beautiful city to explore?
