Hotel Maya Rue

It was over 40°C, so I was grateful the air conditioning worked so well. The hotel is modern and clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is basic, toast, cereal, yogurt and fruit, but enough, and the coffee is good. Wi-Fi was so-so. I’d happily stay here again.

Good prices and service, with plenty to eat at the simple breakfast. The rooms are small but clean, the air conditioning works, and the private bathrooms are clean. The bathroom windows stay open all the time, though, so motorbikes make a lot of noise. Bring earplugs.

The bed was comfortable, the shower had hot water, and the location worked for us. Beyond those positives, it was noisy all the time. The “window” looked straight at a wall and a row of outdoor air-conditioning units, which added to the noise. There was a lot of humidity, and probably mold on the walls. It looked as if staff tried to cover it with repeated coats of paint, but the paint itself was peeling off and lying on the floor. On our last night, we found a cockroach nearly 2 inches long in the bathroom. Fortunately, after a while it made its way outside by itself. Glad we only stayed 2 nights.

The rooms felt like dungeons, with no windows, and without shower curtains the bathroom turned into a swamp. Staff seemed uninterested, unhelpful, and unwilling to accommodate us. They knew nothing about the area either. We moved to hotel Chablis for the second night and had a fantastic time for the same price.
