Yaxkin Hostel

I would stay here again, all else being equal. I spent three nights in the hostel. It's a cool jungle town with not much to do besides visit the ruins and waterfalls. There are several expensive, touristy restaurants in town. The dorms are in separate buildings and are well ventilated with fans and windows. The hot water is very fast. There's a small outdoor sitting area near the lobby, and the other travelers were sociable. There's an attached bar and restaurant. The Wi-Fi is poor and only works in the lobby. No one speaks English.

The rooms were a bit hot, but clean. The mattress was a little too soft. It was great to see the agoutis and opossums, who are very active in the hotel garden. The garden could perhaps use a little sprucing up, maybe with some colorful lamps. There is a fireplace, but it was never used. A big plus is that you can store your bag for free in a large locker with your own padlock if you go on a two-day excursion, for example.

The Wi-Fi wasn’t great, but the location was good and the beds were comfortable. The room’s temperature and dampness were a bit uncomfortable. The kitchen was good, and I met nice people in the common area. Management was also very helpful and let me check in early for free!

A very nice place, close to ADO, a large commercial area, and the usual departure point for colectivos to the Roberto Barrios waterfalls. The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. Even after I checked out, they let me leave my backpack, take a shower, and cook dinner before I left for my night bus to Merida. The place itself looks like a jungle lodge. The dorm was spacious and the bed was comfortable. The shower was hot and had strong pressure. The only downside was the weak Wi-Fi, which you can only access in the common area. Even so, I highly recommend this hostel.
