El Encanto

The view was spectacular and the cocktails were good, but the food and service made the rooftop restaurant a poor choice for a meal. Our group found the place almost empty, yet service was very slow. The food took a long time to arrive and wasn’t hot anymore, though it tasted okay. We ordered vegetarian tacos and got beef tacos instead. The drink selection was also very limited: just one bottle of white wine, eight bottles of Bohemia clara beer, and one type of red wine. I’d come for cocktails and the view, then eat somewhere else.

I only tried the beer at the rooftop bar, not any mixed drinks, but the bar was great and the service was excellent. This location really ought to have separate listings for the hotel and the rooftop bar.

The food was good and fairly priced, and the nightly rate was very reasonable. The rooms are great, too. The hotel’s modern colonial look somehow works, even if it sounds like a bit of an oxymoron. It’s well located and, to me, one of the best hotels in Puebla. The roof garden has fantastic views, especially at night.

The terrace has a nice view of the cathedral, but we were very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend stopping here for a drink. The Aperol Spritz was expensive and not good. The menu listed a few red wines, but they only had two available, and both were served ice cold, so they weren’t drinkable. Getting the bill took forever, and when it came, it included drinks we hadn’t ordered. We also couldn’t pay by credit card because the card reader wasn’t working.
