El Sueño Hotel & Spa

We stayed in ‘Frida’, named in honour of the artist Frida Kahlo. It’s spacious, comfortable, well appointed, and only a few steps from the courtyard. The hotel’s boutique style is delightful, from the central courtyard to the uniquely themed rooms, and the staff are welcoming and helpful. The location is perfect, an easy walk from the Zocalo main square and several cafes, bars, and restaurants. After a day out, I enjoyed my first Margarita in the courtyard. It looked beautiful, as you can see in the photo, and tasted delicious. I highly recommend Hotel El Sueño and would stay again.

On our first evening in Puebla, we were on our way to dinner at the Mural de los Poblanos when we spotted Hotel Sueño and decided to try it. Only one table was occupied, and they seated us in the courtyard. We chose from the menus, then waited ten minutes for someone to come back. We asked for wine and got a cold cabernet sauvignon; I have no idea how long the bottle had been open. No one took our dinner order. After twenty minutes, we flagged down an employee and asked for the check. I told him I wanted to pay right away, but he walked off. Five minutes later, I got up and gave the payment to the first employee I saw because we just wanted to leave. We went on to El Mural de los Poblanos, and what a difference. I thank the employees at Hotel Sueño for the terrible service, since without it we might never have found out what a jewel El Mural de los Poblanos is.

Everything was amazing, from valet when we arrived to the quick, easy checkout. The place is absolutely beautiful, and the staff are excellent and attentive to detail. I had my chihuahua puppy with me, and we were surprised at breakfast when the waiter asked what she’d like to eat too. Part of the $340 peso pet fee included breakfast for both of us.

Such a beautiful, peaceful place. The water takes a while to heat up, but it does eventually. My only letdown was paying 50 pesos for a coffee pod in the room. That feels expensive, and coffee really should be included.
