Almar Resort Luxury Beach Front Experience

We arrived on Tuesday, and the bellboys were pleasant and helpful, offering a refreshing drink at check-in, taking us to our rooms, and showing us around the building: pool, sun deck, breakfast, spa, gym, and bar. The rooms were great and the accommodations fantastic. On Sunday, after the cartel lost its leader and a couple of others, we went into lockdown until things settled. The staff who had made it to work that day, from the wait and bar teams to housekeeping and the front desk, had expected a normal shift and then learned they’d be staying until it was calm. Nelly, Emmanuel, Martin, and, if I remember right, Ernesto were among the staff I can recall. They were all phenomenal and treated us so well. Some slept overnight on loungers by the pool, yet were smiling again for us the next day. It was a pleasure staying there, and I’ll definitely return. Thank you to everyone at the hotel.

We spent two weeks at Almar and I can confidently recommend it to anyone looking for an upscale, LGBT-focused stay in Zona Romantica, Puerto Vallarta. I’d been a little nervous after reading reviews, but the staff were friendly and accommodating, our room was spotless, and the three dining options all had good food. There are two pools, one with a party feel and the other quieter. We didn’t get any timeshare pitches, which surprised me, though maybe that was because we checked in late in the evening. The five-minute walk to the main drag felt like a plus, away from the crowds but still close to everything PV offers. We were there during the events of February 22, 2026. Almar communicated well and made sure guests were comfortable, safe, and fed. It lasted about a day and a half; things were back to normal by Tuesday, although people stayed inside Monday to be cautious. The press made PV sound like a war zone, which seemed like a gross exaggeration. Cartels burned cars, buses, and a few Oxxos to express their anger, which was terrible and scary, but tourists weren’t targeted and there was no violence against them. It was an anomaly and shouldn’t put people off visiting PV. I’ll be back next year and will stay at Almar again.

What was meant to be a one-night visit became a longer stay because of the recent events in PV, and the Almar team treated us with so much compassion. Oscar especially stood out. His care and selflessness during those extra days meant a lot to us. I’ve never had service at this level. Thanks to Oscar and the Almar family for making us feel at home when we needed it. The food was five-star, the entertainment was amazing, and the showers were the best in Mexico.

Best complimentary breakfast ever! Kaia at the front desk and Javier, the bell captain, were outstanding. They knew their stuff, were consistently helpful and made everything easy, always with a smile. They’re truly wonderful members of the team and the face of The Almar.
