Hostal San Pancho - Hostel

Walter was incredibly hospitable, and I met some great people here too. There’s what you need for a comfortable visit. I booked the large suite with a balcony and loved it, then spent one night in a dorm, which was great as well.

I ended up staying just one night. They couldn’t take electronic payment, and I didn’t want to use cash. The Wi-Fi also stopped working or wouldn’t reach my room, and they couldn’t fix it. It’s a bit farther from the beach and most restaurants than some other places. I wouldn’t return unless it had been renovated, though the staff were kind. I think part of the trouble came from miscommunication and an unclear website. I booked a dorm bed expecting air conditioning, but it turned out to be in an open-air hallway with just a small fan, no lockers, and hot, humid conditions. After mosquitoes swarmed me following rain, I asked to move to a private room with A/C. Luna quickly arranged that. The room was in good shape, although the shower floor was covered in hair and the sink leaked. The air conditioning wasn’t very powerful, but it was enough for summer.

The air and the fan both weren’t working, and it was very expensive. When I asked the girl about four nights, she quoted one price, but in the end she charged us for an extra night. She only said sorry and didn’t offer a proper solution. It was a very bad experience. If you have another option, don’t choose this hostel. I don’t recommend these people and won’t be back.

We never got a key to our room. They said they’d give us one after making a copy, but it never arrived, and we were locked out for six hours. The staff were no help and made us feel completely ignored. The room was hot, stuffy, and dirty. Its only fan sounded like a jet engine and sat right beside our heads while we slept. I’d never recommend this hostel to anyone. Do not book here.
