Hotel Alebrijes

The hotel has a good bed, hot water that works, a big room, and coffee. Alebrijes everywhere, too. There’s a decent gym, Chedraui supermarket, laundry, and other things just a few hundred meters away. The town itself is pretty podunk, but with a car it’s alright. We had fun!

Coming off a late bus into Pochutla, we didn’t have many choices, and I was glad this place was there. It’s right by the bus Terminal, and beats paying for a night taxi to Mazunte. Still, it could be much better. I’m unsure the basic room was worth 50 US dollars: the plumbing was broken, though it was fairly clean, and the AC worked. Service was average, and the simple lock didn’t make the room feel very secure. We only needed somewhere to sleep before moving on. Maybe check the phone details, given the other reviews. I’m surprised there aren’t better options around.

Parking was a plus, and we had no trouble while we were there, though it didn’t seem monitored. The hotel covers the basics for a short stay, perhaps at a 2-3 star level. Still, the check-out handling left a bad impression. Reception’s rules mentioned an approximately one-hour grace period, but at check-out time someone banged on the door and yelled, “Are you staying another night?” We said no and were then told to leave in a passive-aggressive way. We left without any issue, but they should honor the grace period or remove it, and staff need to communicate better. The main avenue location is convenient, across from Chedraui and near restaurants and transport in every direction. It was a pleasant surprise to have hot water, and the rooms are large. The mini-split sometimes struggled with the heat in our big room. The shower had a small side drain covered with plastic, so water leaked across the bathroom. There were clothes belonging to another guest in the wardrobe. We didn’t need to use it, but it’s worth checking your room. When we called to ask for a quote and reserve, we were told $800 for a single room. At arrival, they said the rate didn’t apply because vacation season had just started and charged $900. The difference was frustrating, since people ask for quotes beforehand. Be careful to confirm the price when booking.

It’s clean, air-conditioned, reasonably priced, and only steps from the bus stop. Service was friendly and excellent. After I’d left, the young man at reception ran after me to return the phone charger I’d left plugged in. I recommend this place.
