Hotel Villa Cassis

There are open areas to sit and relax at this charming hotel above Tapalpa. In the morning, they bring out coffee and a wonderful Mexican breakfast on the terrace.

Ask for a second-floor room if you can, the view is fantastic. Ours had a gas fireplace, a kitchenette, and a comfortable balcony with a table, chairs, and hammock. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, and the owners were attentive and lovely. The TV is flat screen, but only has Spanish channels. Wi-Fi was okay, though not quite enough for streaming. We were in the room farthest from the office.

The staff were wonderful at Tapalpa quaint hotel & suites. My only issue was the bathroom ventilation. It has an extractor, but I feel it needs natural ventilation, especially because the pipes need it.

We booked this hotel based on the photos and good reviews to celebrate my birthday. Once we arrived, though, nobody seemed to be following basic COVID-19 precautions. People in the backyard, kitchen, and reception, among other areas, weren’t wearing masks. They didn’t take our temperature or offer antibacterial gel. I asked the receptionist if she wore a mask. She said it was upstairs, then after an uncomfortable minute went to get it. The manager also came over without one and spoke to us as if everything were normal. When I asked him the same question, he said that, in the middle of a pandemic, he didn’t think a hotel needed to wear masks all the time. He didn’t like being asked about it and decided we shouldn’t stay. I stayed calm, since I didn’t want to stay somewhere without even basic safety measures in place. Hotels, companies, and people all share this planet. We should think about how our actions affect others. I hope other travelers consider this before booking and dealing with someone who doesn’t seem aware of or compliant with the ongoing pandemic. We had to find another hotel, but fortunately we found one. They had all the measures in place when we arrived, and we spent the night there after driving from one place to another.
