The place is pretty far out, though there are plenty of nice places in this village, so I'd pick somewhere else to enjoy your stay. This hostel is run down, the staff were unfriendly and couldn't handle the booking, and it had bad vibes anyway. The prices listed on Hostelworld and other sites are wrong. They try to charge double and won't accept cancellations.

The atmosphere left us feeling bitter, and we didn't enjoy the stay much, even though the room itself was gorgeous and the mattress comfortable. I also don't get why an eco resort uses polyester sheets. The building is beautiful and probably the most unique place I've stayed in México, but the staff didn't match the hippy look. They laid down so many rules: no outside food, no incense in rooms, leave your room key with staff when going out, and no other guests in your room, even if those guests were also staying at Horus. Our friends were fined 200 pesos for bringing fruit and vegetables. They told us we could store three bags for 100 pesos a day, which sounded reasonable. But in the morning, just as we were leaving for a festival, they said it was 100 pesos per bag per day. That would have come to 900 pesos for the weekend. It was extortionate and so unprofessional to spring that on us as we left, and it made the morning really stressful.

It's a really unusual mix of hostel and hotel, with open-air bedrooms and tree houses. I had a great stay, even though it's 3 km from downtown. There are free bikes, and a vegan restaurant downstairs at the street front. I stayed in the female dorms as a guy and had no issues. It was 200 pesos a night, and there was parking for motorcycles and cars, though I think cars cost extra. The bathroom was the part I really didn't like. You poop in a bucket and cover it with wood chips. I understand the reduce and reuse idea, but it felt almost like camping, hahaha. The shower never got warm either, so if you like terrible bathroom experiences, you'll love it. Still, it's a very cool, unique place to spend a day or two.

The beds were great, but there were mosquitoes, a very loud street right beside the place, and dogs barking louder than my loudest alarm. The Wi-Fi was just enough for messages, maybe audio podcasts. Food on site is on the expensive side and not the best tasting, though the eggs are awesome. I wouldn't recommend the burger. Good restaurants are 5-15 minutes away. The place itself gets five stars from me for its charm and the staff's kindness. I got the impression they're always improving it. I visited twice in two months, and the Ceremony space had gone from a small tent to a larger one. It's definitely worth going once. I'd suggest 1-3 days if you're already in Tepoztlán and can take the downsides in stride.

I booked a private room but got a mattress on the rooftop terrace instead, with no door or walls, just old curtains. There were tons of mosquitoes overnight and no net, so I couldn't sleep and got bitten all night. In the morning, nobody was at reception to return my deposit, and my motorcycle was stuck in the back yard with no one to open the door. The maintenance guy finally managed to open it at noon, with reception still unattended. The few other customers staying that night said the same thing: DON'T BOOK THERE!
