La Casa Roja

Cleanliness stood out most to me: the towels, beds, bathrooms, and rooms were all very clean. We also had plenty of hot water. There were eight of us, and everyone respected the clear quiet hours, so we had no trouble with noise. I didn’t see any security guards, but we didn’t need help with a disturbance; based on the comments, that may be something they need to address if there aren’t any. The parking area is small, with room for only four cars. We were on a motorcycle and luckily found a spot. They give you keys, so you can come and go as you like. Everything went well for us, and yes, I’d return.

The layout and location were excellent, but hot water was a problem on two of the three nights. I told reception on the second night because nobody was around to ask for help early in the morning. They said they had checked it, but the water started lukewarm and then turned ice cold. Later that afternoon, I went to the service area where the heater was and saw the distribution valve closed, with the temperature control set to pilot. I adjusted them, and the hot water finally came back. The garden-facing window locks also don’t work. Reception and customer service staff could use proper training on these issues. Zero security. The parking lot holds only four cars, so the rest have to park on the street, apparently without security either. Two nights in a row, we were left with nobody from the hotel to help us. At 4 AM we tried to get help with drunk people at the pool, but nobody answered the phones or did anything, and the noise kept us awake. On Friday we arrived at 1 AM and rang the bell for 20 minutes before the night watchman came from his house to let us in, then left again. We were locked inside at night with no one available to help. Very dangerous.

The reception team were incredibly helpful. They even offered to drive us to downtown Tequis instead of us having to take a taxi, which was such a nice gesture. We had a great experience, and I’d definitely recommend it and come back.
