If you're trying to save money in downtown Tijuana, Hotel Catalina is a pretty good option, and it's really close to LA REVOLUTION! The rooms are mediocre, though, with funky designs and odd steps. One staircase has steps at different heights, including one that drops about three feet. There's an ironing board in the room, which is handy, and the TV is great for watching your shows and signing into different apps. The phones are faulty and have short cables. The walls are dirty, like people vomit on them every day. The view of the tacos is the best part. There's tons of traffic, ambulances, garbage trucks, and trucks, like living in New York City on a Monday. Clubs stay open until 7 AM, so I wouldn't recommend it for resting unless you're there to party. The area is quiet during the day, but the place gets lively at night and the parking lot fills up. You may have to bribe the parking lot guy to hold your spot, but at least they have parking, unlike some other places. It's convenient if you're without a car. There's an oxo just outside to the right where you can get water and snacks, plus lots of taco shops and a juice man in the morning. There's also a barbershop next door, some cool shops around, and a nearby sports bar we checked out that was pretty empty. If you do have a car, there's a cool parking lot with a red door, across the street and about a block and a half to the right towards LA REVU.

I've never had a hotel stay this bad. The bed was noisy, the front desk didn't respond at all, the towel was dirty, and the internet was slow. I can't recommend this place, not even as a motel. Stay away.

The front desk was unwelcoming, unprofessional, and disgusting in the way they behaved. I don't know who owns the hotel, but I'm one hundred percent sure the owner isn't available, because the front desk isn't working well. When I called for a fresh towel, a guy hung up on me repeatedly. I definitely wouldn't recommend it unless they change how they treat customers.

The location is great and the rooms are comfortable, but our check-in was awful. The woman at the front desk was extremely rude and entitled for no reason. When my husband carried our bags to the lobby before taking the car to park, she yelled, “are you parking now or when?” She'd said she'd tell the parking attendant he was coming so the door would be opened, but she didn't. My husband had to come back and tell her nobody was opening the gate before she told the guy to help him. Super rude, stuck-up, and such a bad attitude. It's a shame someone like that works there, because the location is so convenient. I hope she loses that miserable look someday.

The single room is extremely small, but it was fine for me as a solo traveler who just needed somewhere to sleep. For the price, I was surprised by how clean it was, and the shower had hot water and strong pressure. It's a block from the main street, so a little quieter, though the walls are thin and you can hear noise all through the hotel. Bring earplugs if you're sensitive to sound.
