The staff and owners were kind, attentive, and easy to reach. WiFi and A/C worked perfectly, and the central location felt safe, with plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Renting bikes was simple, and made the trip to the beach easy. We loved Botokai beach club. The rooftop pool is small but pleasant, with a shower and bathroom. The water is very cold. There are only four loungers and the layout is cramped, so when they’re occupied you have to squeeze past them to get into the pool. The noise was exhausting. A house right across from Apt 7 played music at club volume at all hours, including from 3 to 5 a.m. Earplugs and white noise didn’t block the constant bass. It’s a neighborhood, so motorcycles and dogs are part of the noise too. The main bed is very hard, and the “sofa bed” is a small futon that’s probably best for someone under 5’4”. Bring your own coffee grounds, since local shops mostly sell instant. The room was generally clean, but our blanket smelled sour from the laundry and the door handles were coated in thick oil when we arrived. For the beach, take the bike lane through the city center and then the sidewalk along the highway to the National Park entrance. Get off your bike there, let them search your bag, then ride the good beach access road to choose a beach or beach club. If you reach the jaguar park, see the Guardia Civil, and the road has turned to asphalt, you’ve gone too far. You can’t get back into the park without taking a long detour.
