Holiday Villa Alor Setar

The hotel is getting old, and the room rate doesn’t feel justified by what’s provided. There’s no children’s channel, and the old control panel behaves oddly. Be careful with the window: a small child can open it easily, and it’s high up, so I had to tie it shut for safety. One lift is out, leaving just one to use. The location is fine, with easy access to the facilities.

I came for a function in the grand ballroom, and the food was marvellous. The Curry Mee at Holiday Villa is a famous local dish prepared by the chef here, and it’s a must try. The food is among the best in Alor Setar. It’s also right in the heart of town, with many interesting places an easy walk away. I’d rate the comfort and service four stars.

It’s in the middle of town, right beside a shopping mall, which is convenient. Families with kids should watch the window, though, since it opens easily. I moved the tables and chairs away from it and warned my kids not to open the curtains.

The room was clean, tidy, and great, though it could probably use an update. The staff were especially friendly and polite, and I really appreciate how well they treated me. I’ll definitely come back.
