The Katerina Hotel

We held a birthday party for our boss on 25th jan, and the food turned out splendid. The decor was really pretty, and the team accommodated our preferences exactly as requested. Thanks so much to everyone, and to chef zulkmar for preparing the food the way we asked. My friends and I had a great night and would definitely come back to spazzo cafe!

The room lock was the main reason I couldn’t give The Katerina Hotel five stars. It didn’t work properly and the door could be opened from outside. There was also some noise from mat rempit on a weekend night, though it wasn’t a big deal. Even so, this was a very secure-feeling stay, with excellent security staff who were responsive and proactive. The lobby and parking were well lit, and security helped guide me into a space at night and checked the area when I went back to my car for the charging cable I’d left inside. The room was spacious and very clean, with a nice view of the mountain and town through large windows. There were a few minor marks on the glass, but it was clean inside and out. The bed and air conditioning worked well, and the curtains kept the sunlight out. The retro bedside control panel was a nostalgic touch, though some controls didn’t work with modern TVs or appliances. The bathroom was especially clean and had a shower cap, hair dryer, and toiletries. A toothbrush and toothpaste were available on request. The pool was clean and had tables, chairs, and two showers beside it. The retro gym equipment was in good condition, dust-free, and kept cool with working air conditioning. There was even a weighing scale. The hotel booklet with its history, attractions, and services was a thoughtful touch. Staff were friendly, professional, and responsive. Parking in front of the lobby is first come, first served, with a rear lot available if those spaces are full. The hotel felt well maintained, and I’d recommend it for a relaxing weekend in Batu Pahat. This was my first visit to the town, and I chose the hotel after reading reviews. Agoda booking was simple, and check-in and check-out were quick and smooth. Remember to bring your passport or ID. I also noticed a couple of SG cars and motorcycles in the hotel parking area.

The strict checkout rule was striking: 12:00 PM meant exactly 12:00, with no flexibility or consideration. We explained that our two exhausted babies had barely slept because of the noise, but the hotel wouldn’t give us any extra time. The windows clearly weren’t soundproof, and outside noise came straight into the room. During Chinese New Year, the firecrackers sounded as if they were going off beside the bed. Both babies kept waking up, and the whole family had a terrible night and couldn’t rest properly. The hotel can’t seem to reduce the noise entering its rooms, yet it enforces checkout with military precision. Customer comfort clearly isn’t a priority. This wasn’t family-friendly, and I wouldn’t return or recommend it.

There are places to eat and get a massage across the road, and the hotel is near amenities with easy driving access. Parking is okay, and it has a grand entrance. The building is showing wear, though, and the room feels dated. The bed was too soft for me, and it was quite hard to find the toilet lights. The fixtures are old.
