AG Hotel Penang

I've stayed here before, and I'd say the place is just a little above average.

The one clear advantage is the location in Gelugor, close to USM. But for these prices, Georgetown has much better hotels. The noise around the hotel made it hard to get any peace, and there were problems throughout the stay: the room was tiny, badly laid out, and unclean, with ants, insects, and even lizards. The furnishings and bathroom were in awful shape, and the staff were rude and unprofessional. There was no room service, and the cleaning and maintenance seemed poorly handled. The cost felt exorbitant for what we got. I can't recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, enjoyable stay.

The room is much more spacious than others at a similar price, and there's a free hot and cold water dispenser in the lobby. The shower heater works well, though you can't adjust the water temperature at the face wash or toilet. The hotel has a wheelchair-friendly route to the lobby, but the slope is a little steep. Soundproofing is quite poor, and some floor tiles seem hollow underneath and could crack at any time. Toiletries aren't provided, including shampoo, toilet paper, tissues, toothbrush, and toothpaste. There's only a bar of soap. Parking nearby is difficult, and the closest open car park is in a very high-risk bird poop area.

The price feels fair for what's provided. The room was clean, though most rooms don't have windows, and the toilet was clean too. The rain shower was superb. Clean, nice-smelling towels, a soft and clean bed, and a good air conditioner. The elevator was clean as well, and the receptionists were very friendly. Definitely recommended.
