The rooms are compact, so keep that in mind if you’re bringing large luggage. The hotel follows a lifestyle or co-living setup, with water dispensers on each floor to refill your drinking water instead of traditional bottled water. I stayed 4 nights at lyf Georgetown Penang from 21 - 25 May 2026, and found it a generally pleasant place. It’s central in George Town, with historic spots, cafes, and good local eateries easily reached on foot. The property feels vibrant, modern, and youthful, and being quite new, it was clean. The beds were very comfortable, and the staff were welcoming and friendly throughout. Everything was satisfactory for a comfortable, fuss-free stay. A solid, reliable base in Penang.

The location is excellent, and the hotel staff were well trained, welcoming, and helpful. My room was clean and had reasonable amenities, though it faced a wall with no view. The gym is relatively tiny. I still had a nice stay, but parking and breakfast could be improved. Parking costs MYR10 per day, which surprised me for a 4-star hotel. The room acoustics also weren’t great, and I could hear other people’s activities. Breakfast had very limited choices, and the dining place isn’t exclusive to hotel guests. I asked for a latte, but was told hotel guests only get a long black.

The bedding is what I love most here. The bed, blanket, and pillows are super comfortable, and the products used in the room are generally good quality. The reception staff and bellman were friendly. The hotel and rooms were clean, basic amenities were there, and a hair dryer was in one of the drawers. It was our third time staying, booked through Agoda at around RM 330/room/night with breakfast. For that price, the room felt a bit small. Breakfast was pre-packed fried noodles with side dishes, fruit, and salad. Coffee came from a machine, and I think guests could take bread and eggs to prepare themselves. It was okay for us, but there was no choice. A few minutes before 10am, staff came to say they were closing at 10am, so we couldn’t linger and finish our drinks. That was fine, though. Parking was the disappointment. The limited free spaces beside the hotel should be first come, first served for guests, instead of being reserved for so-called “VIPs” based on the car they drive. Guests who don’t qualify have to park behind the hotel and pay RM 10.60 for 24 hours by Touch ‘n Go card or debit card. It feels unfair to pay for hotel parking while free spaces go only to expensive cars. There were still a few empty free spaces beside the hotel when we returned at night, and again in the morning. We might still come back because the room is so comfortable.

The staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful, with great PR skills. Breakfast is served at Kenny Hills Baker just behind the hotel, as part of their partnership. There’s a laundry area downstairs for washing or drying clothes, and the cozy hotel feels fresh and new. The room was just right for two people. I chose this vibrant new hotel after reading reviews online. It’s right in the heart of Georgetown, with viral cafes, restaurants, and attractions within walking distance. E&O Hotel is opposite, handy for sunset views and evening walks. Highly recommended, and I’d stay again.

This was our third Lyf stay, after Bangkok and Singapore. We like the young, fun interiors, and each Lyf has its own identity. This one felt very Instagram-worthy, even in the lift, which has a ceiling mirror for overhead shots. The room was clean and a bit more spacious than the ones we had in Bangkok and Singapore. The location is really convenient, opposite Eastern & Oriental Hotel. Most cafes and places like Armenian Street are within 10 minutes drive or so. Parking is fairly convenient in the public lots shared with the Kenny Hills Bakers outlet next door. Remember to validate your Touch ‘n Go or bank card every time you exit. It’s a flat day rate with multiple entries. This Lyf offers in-room dining from Kenny Hills from morning till night. We didn’t try it since we were always out exploring, and Penang has too many food options to miss. Overall, it’s convenient, fun, and relatively budget-friendly. It makes us want to look for other Lyf hotels in different countries on future trips.
