Old Penang Heritage Inn

A budget hotel with a striking, classic interior. They turned an old shophouse into a hotel, and the location is quite strategic. It suited me for a quick, short rest.

The hotel wasn't welcoming. The air conditioning didn't work, and after almost switching rooms twice, the rooms were leaking. The receptionist was very rude, a Chinese boy.

The only things in its favor were the low price and being close to George Town city centre, where you can stroll around. The place is worn out, with a feel of the old Sino-British colonial past, and the thin walls let in outside noise. I booked a room with its own bathroom but got a shared one instead, so it wasn't worth the price. I wish I hadn't stayed. It was my worst experience, and I'll never set foot in this quaint hotel again.

The central spot made it easy to reach markets, shops, and the main sights, and there’s plenty of great food around if you’re willing to wander and try something different. The hotel itself is a simple place to sleep and recharge. My room was clean, with air conditioning, and the small bathroom was still adequate. Shiniy at reception was very helpful whenever I had a question.
