Grand Kampar Hotel

Parking is right in front of the hotel, and it’s easy to get to nearby cafes, restaurants, and a convenience store. The room was acceptable, the staff were friendly, and breakfast was simple.

We really enjoyed the food at Grand Kampar Hotel, especially the cucuk sayur, coffee, and dessert choices at the café. The Chinese restaurant’s set dinners were tasty and good value, too. Our room was spacious and clean, with fresh paint, a comfortable bed, pleasant air-conditioning, and a strong shower. We appreciated the recent upgrades. The staff were polite and helpful when a small maintenance issue came up, and they fixed it before checkout. My wife and I stayed for two nights. It was peaceful, a nice place for couples or families to relax and enjoy a meal. The location is convenient for trips to nearby towns, and we loved looking out at Kampar’s green scenery, which is hard to find elsewhere. Grand Kampar Hotel still feels welcoming and is getting better. We hope management continues to do well after the difficulties of the pandemic, and we’d like to come back.

Mr Ashwin really helped me out on my second night. A screw had loosened and one lens had come off my multifocal glasses, so I was panicking a bit. He suggested an optical shop within walking distance, but warned me it was already 8:15 pm and the shop closed at 8:30. I asked him to call and explain that I was hurrying over and ask them to stay open. They did, and I got there at 8:25 and had my glasses fixed. Such a relief! He’d also recommended two good dinner spots on my first night. Check-in was pleasant too, with two friendly staff members, and the front office sent a welcome message when I arrived and a thank-you note after checkout.

The food was a letdown, especially breakfast. The sambal with the nasi lemak was watery, very sweet, and barely tasted of chili. The half-boiled eggs were more than 80% hardened. Our basic room was clean, but there was a strong sewage smell coming from the bathtub. At night we also noticed heavy cigarette smoke in the toilet and corridor. The staff responded quickly and someone came to spray fragrance, which we declined. A few minutes later they called to say they couldn't detect the smoker or smokers. We stayed one night and were happy with the customer service overall. The front office sent a welcome message at check-in and thanked us after checkout.
