I've stayed at this hotel regularly when visiting Kota Kinabalu, so this recent visit was especially disappointing. The parking was being renovated, but the hotel didn't provide parking or a proper alternative. I had to leave my car at Suria Mall and pay extra, which was inconvenient and affected my stay. I know renovations can be necessary, but guests should have been told beforehand or given a better arrangement. I hope management addresses this, since I've enjoyed staying here in the past.

The breakfast the next morning was lovely and added to the feeling that I was being looked after. I arrived in KK from Seoul around 12:30 a.m. feeling exhausted, but the welcome at Gayangis Hotel helped me settle in right away. Even that late, all the staff were kind, patient, and attentive, which meant a lot to me. I left with a lasting good impression and hope to stay here again on my next trip to Kota Kinabalu.

The breakfast buffet got a little dull, with about 80% of the food repeating each day. Still, the shopping mall is right next door, and Gaya street is an easy walk away.

Grandis Hotels and Resorts works well as a practical city base, especially if getting around easily matters more to you than luxury. It's close to major shopping areas, restaurants, cafés, and city attractions, and many nearby places are walkable without transport. The facilities are reasonable and the hotel has the basics for a short stay, with acceptable upkeep. Rooms are fairly average, though, and can be noisy depending on where you're staying and how busy the hotel is. That can be uncomfortable for light sleepers. Service is generally fine, but may vary during peak periods. It's a convenient choice for location and accessibility, but not the best fit if you want a quiet, premium, resort-style stay in Kota Kinabalu.

Suria Mall is connected to the hotel, and the location is good. The breakfast also had a good spread. But my wife and I were badly bitten by bed bugs. We had red patches all over our legs, where the bugs seemed to bite most, and the itching lasted the whole day.
