Tropicana the residences KLCC by YAJU

Cockroaches kept appearing around the water filter and sink area, about 10 big and small ones killed each day. When we told a staff member, he said our unit wasn’t the only one with this problem, the whole building had it, and there was nothing they could do. The bathrooms also smelled of sewage sometimes. We booked a 3-bedroom unit at Tropicana for 4 days. It was big and comfortable enough for 5, in a fantastic location, and had plates, cups, and utensils. We enjoyed our holiday in KL, but the accommodation quality let us down. I wouldn’t recommend it because of the poor sanitary conditions. I believe there are other places in the KLCC area with a good location and better maintenance.

The view of KLCC and KL tower was stunning, and the room was large with a comfortable bed and pillow. I paid below rm250 per night for a 2-bedroom place, perhaps because I stayed on weekdays. The host needs to improve check-in and check-out, though. Foreigners were handling check-in, the counter location wasn’t clearly explained, and the deposit receipt was handwritten. There was a long queue at checkout, and a staff member asked me to rate the residence right after I checked out. That’s not a proper way to get an honest review.

The view was lovely, but the room was dirty and full of cockroaches. I have blattophobia, so staying there was one of my worst nightmares. They ignored our complaint until we found something that wasn’t working. Then they moved us to another room, where there were fewer cockroaches, but they were still there. I feel sorry for the place because the view is beautiful. I hope the manager looks after the property and keeps up with the necessary maintenance, or they may lose many customers.

Across two nights, we found 7 cockroaches in the room: one in the bedroom that we killed when we arrived, one active in the shower, one active in the toilet, one dead beside the wardrobe, and one dead plus 2 active in the kitchen. The room was clearly infested and extremely unhygienic. This was one of the worst accommodation experiences I’ve had. We arrived at 11pm after a tiring transit and found the first cockroach within minutes. We messaged staff on WhatsApp and got ignored. At the lobby, a staff member even denied he worked there when we approached him. He only engaged and arranged another room at another property after we contacted Agoda customer service in front of him. It was obvious they acted only because we involved Agoda. No one should have to deal with so many cockroaches during a stay. The hotel’s hygiene standards were very poor, and its customer service was even worse. I’m sharing this so other travelers can make an informed decision and avoid the same nightmare. Definitely not recommended.
