Rivermoon Kuantan

This is a budget place run by a machine. When I locked myself out of my room, I spent eight hours in the foyer before someone came in the morning and managed to let me back in. The machine tries to use facial recognition. Hello, I’m checking into a budget hotel, not crossing state borders. Many rooms have shared toilets, so if you’re sleepy and go at night, take your access card or you could be stuck sleeping outside until the cleaner arrives.

The property was clean and well looked after, and its location near both the city centre and the beach worked really well for a family trip. Good value for the price.

An affordable place to stay, and I’d still give it five stars for the price. Checking in at the kiosk was easy. A few small things need attention: in the deluxe room the plug is up by head level instead of beside the bed, so charging a phone is awkward, and the shower head worked but leaked. For what it costs, I can’t complain too much 🤣🤣. A good choice if you just need somewhere affordable.

I come to Kuantan for work once a month, so I’d stay here again. The rooms are very cheap, and using the machine for cashless check-in and check-out was convenient. The doors use hotel-style key cards. We had a clean room and chose the shared bathroom, which was clean too. There was complimentary drinking water, plus a cooler in the kitchen for hot drinks or Maggi cup noodles, though the noodles aren’t provided. It’s a budget hotel set in a two-unit, two-storey house, with lots of space. The host was kind and helpful, even arranging a last-minute room with two single beds.
