After driving three hours to Kuching, my family and I were hoping to rest comfortably. Instead, check-in was frustrating and left a terrible first impression, made worse by the hotel's lack of accountability. I had booked and paid in advance through Agoda for a Double Queen room, but was given a Single Queen bed when I arrived. I politely tried to sort it out with the staff. After nearly two hours of waiting, they were still blaming the system and couldn't check me into the correct room. I'm very dissatisfied with my experience at Natol Hotel Tabuan Tranquility.

The room was dark and rundown, and the bathroom was in the same condition. The air-conditioning didn't work properly, so I had to move rooms. For some reason, the replacement room had a wet floor, and the kind receptionist tried to dry it. The fire escape was blocked by building materials, which is a serious problem in an emergency. If that doesn't put you off, there are kopitiams and an emart surrounding the place.

The staff were really friendly, and the economy room was okay for the price. The shared bathroom is the main hassle: there’s just one, and the lock takes some figuring out before you can shut it properly. The floor sometimes smelled like a dirty bathroom or drain water, too. You may hear noises from other rooms. I expected that in a cheap hotel, but it still wasn’t great.

Good value for the price. The room was clean and the service was nice, with restaurants and a mart within walking distance. The facilities are getting a bit old, though.

Pubs and a bistro nearby can be a little disturbing, but the location is really convenient. There are restaurants, street food, and both halal and non-halal cafes close by. My room was fairly comfortable, and I got an affordable rate through a promotion for a standard room. The staff were friendly overall.
