Ten Street Motel

Mr. Goh was extremely kind and helpful. We booked one night, then extended for two more. Although we had reserved a single room, he upgraded us to a larger one at the same price. He sorted out our bike rental, explained where to eat nearby, and they also offer an airport shuttle.

Mr. Goh was friendly and helped visitors without expecting anything in return. I’d booked this motel because of the reviews, and my experience was just as good as people had described. Our room cost much less than I expected, though the bathroom was very small. For under 60 ringit on a public holiday, with two queen beds, that’s what you can expect. We planned to rent a car, and Mr. Goh called the rental company to ask them to bring one to the motel. It was a peak day, so instead he drove us to the jetty point, about 2 km away, and helped us book a car. The motel is around 2 km from the jetty point, perhaps a 30-minute walk, but a Grab was better and cost us RM 6. There’s plenty of parking out front, along with a Public bank and restaurants. The Wednesday and Saturday night markets are five minutes away.

We spent two nights at Ten Street Motel. Its location right in the centre of Kuah is very convenient. Reception isn’t open 24 hours, so let Mr Goh know when you expect to arrive and leave. Otherwise you could be left alone without access to your room.

Kuah City was a cheaper option for us, and closer to the ferry, though it’s about 20 minutes from Cenang and isn’t a beach town. Most tourists stay near Cenang Beach, but expect to pay more there. A taxi to Cenang costs around 20 ringgit. The owner surprised us with a room upgrade when we arrived, then made sure everything was in order and was very helpful. Our room was large, tidy, and had all the basics. The air con worked well, though we hardly needed to use it. Friday’s night market was literally right outside the motel. When we checked out, we left our bags in a locked room for a full-day tour. After we got back, we just wanted a shower, and the owner offered us the bathroom without hesitation even though we’d already checked out. He really went out of his way to help.
