Casugria Dutch Heritage Residence

We really enjoyed the garden, pool, delicious breakfast, and peaceful feel of the place. After a hot, crowded day in the city center, it was a lovely spot to unwind. Sean and Natasha were incredibly warm and welcoming. We got such a friendly welcome from them and stayed in the Governor’s House. The historic old town is a short walk away, and there’s a shopping mall, an ATM, and several restaurants nearby, including places the locals eat. If you want to see Melaka and still have somewhere calm and comfortable to come back to, this is a great choice.

The garden is a delight, with more than 500 pots, I reckon, and Natasha’s love of plants and flowers shows everywhere. Rooms are soundproofed, so we didn’t hear traffic, and there’s plenty of green space for children to run around safely. Our grandchildren loved the pool after long morning runs in the tropical heat, and raced Granddad along the grassy strip. The pool was a great way to cool off. We booked all four rooms, and Casugria felt almost like home, except nobody had to cook, sweep, or clean. Sean and Natasha are warm, considerate, and obliging hosts. Breakfasts were always interesting and delicious, and Elizabeth made wonderful Indian breads. Sean replies promptly, and booking directly with him was cost effective. The location works well for exploring the main attractions and is close to restaurants and laundromats. The good food, space, and welcoming atmosphere meant our large family could sit together and enjoy time as a family. We appreciated having hosts who knew when to leave us to ourselves and when to help. Well done to Sean and Natasha for carefully looking after an important part of Melaka’s history.

The owners were wonderful hosts and went out of their way to make our holiday special. They were great with our kids, helped arrange transport to KL, and served an amazing authentic breakfast. We felt safe and welcome throughout. With its historical building, beautiful garden, and relaxing pool, this place feels like an oasis in the middle of Melakka. A 100% recommendation. The garden and pool were highlights for us. The compound has a huge variety of trees and plants, and the pool was very clean. We had it to ourselves, and it was shallow enough for the children to stand. Outside the rooms there was so much space, especially by Singapore standards. The rooms were soundproof, so we slept well, and we felt safe and at home in the secure compound. Sean and Natasha are friendly, experienced hosts. They gave useful advice about places to visit and avoiding tourist traps, and Sean suggested booking directly to avoid platform fees. They knew when to give us family time and when to step in with advice. We arrived mid-afternoon and got homemade high tea snacks as part of the stay. When we realized we couldn’t get back one afternoon, they changed one snack break to extra breakfast servings to suit us. We enjoyed talking with them about family, children, life experiences, Melakan culture, and our shared Roman Catholic religion. We made friends with them during the trip. Breakfast was prepared fresh just before we came to the dining area, with tasty food and generous servings. The kids ate well every day. We especially appreciated the flexible breakfast hours, since our four children woke at different times. At first I was uneasy about parking outside the compound, but seeing the owners’ vehicles parked there and several CCTVs reassured me. Nothing happened. The location is central, and it was easy to drive or take a Grab to the main tourist spots. Grab drivers could find us without trouble. My family and I had a great stay at the residence. We hope we can return to enjoy this unique place and have a chance to rest and recharge.
