The location worked well for me, and the basics I needed were there: hot water, cold air conditioning, and an affordable rate. The hotel feels a bit dated after all these years, and there’s no lift, so you’ll have to carry heavy bags up to your room and back down at checkout.

For this price, the hotel was good enough, though the older room needed better upkeep and kept it from being a five-star stay. We asked to switch rooms and, to our surprise, they upgraded us at no extra cost. The customer service was a real plus. I’d suggest booking a premium room for a better experience. There’s a good Korean-Malay style restaurant across the way, and A formosa and Christ church are about a kilometer’s walk away. You do need to use the stairs, but there aren’t too many.

I liked how easy it was to find places to eat and get a massage nearby, and there’s a cinema within walking distance too. Fenix Inn is in a handy spot for local food and entertainment. My room faced the main road and had windows. It was clean, had the basic things I needed, and the air conditioning and fast, reliable WiFi both worked well. The staff were friendly and polite. When there was a problem with my first room, they sorted it out quickly and moved me to another one without a fuss. The shower products weren’t really to my taste, but there’s a local supermarket close by where I could get my own shampoo and soap. The hotel is on the 2nd and 3rd floors, with stairs only, so keep that in mind if stairs are difficult or you have heavy luggage. I booked through Agoda and the stay matched what I expected. It’s a solid basic option for the price and location, and I’d consider staying here again when I’m back in Malacca.

The rooms are decent for the price, and the location is excellent. What disappointed me was how rigid the cancellation policy was. I know my original booking was non-refundable, but when my plans changed, I booked the same hotel again for another date. My stay was still more than a month away, yet they wouldn’t waive the cancellation charge.
