This place is what it is, and the owner's hospitality is amazing. Don't come expecting a 5 Star hotel; staying here is a proper backpacking experience. The ferry is close by.

Jai, the owner, was the best: generous, kind and friendly. The jetty is nearby, as is an eco supermarket with good prices.
I only planned to stay one night, but it turned into a week. Tam and Farid made me feel at home and welcome straight away. They even took me in their car to see other parts of Mersing, which was really nice. It's a laid-back hostel, about a 5 minute walk from the pier, with lots of shops and restaurants around. Stay here, you won't regret it!
Simple rooms and low prices make this a good place to spend a few days before heading to Pulau Tioman. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the walk there takes about 5-10 minutes and is easy.
I paid for my booking in advance, then arrived around midnight after about 30 hours of travel. There was no one there and no light, the doorbell didn't ring, and calls went unanswered. Local people, the clerk at 7/11 and the receptionist at the Riverside Hotel all tried calling for me. Poor service. There's definitely no 24-hour reception, even though that's why I chose this hostel. I ended up staying at the Riverside Hotel instead.
