OYO 89642 Highway Inn

The staff were friendly, and the price is affordable, so I understand it’s a low-budget hotel. The room itself was okay, but the bedding had stains, some of them looking like blood. The toilet was dirty and moldy, and the water pressure kept changing. I also felt disgusted whenever my skin touched the dirty toilet partition curtain. If you have a little extra to spend, I’d consider staying somewhere else.

The service was good, and there was easy parking, WiFi, and a restaurant downstairs. My Queen Room had windows, and both the room and toilet were spacious. The toilet was clean and had a water heater. But the room felt as if it had only been half-prepared. It smelled bad, and so did the blanket, sheets, and curtains. Maybe I was just unlucky.

The shower water kept swinging between too weak and too strong, which made rinsing off difficult and meant I took longer showers than usual. The room itself was unpleasant from the moment I walked in, with a lingering mix of cigarette smoke, old fabric, and dampness. The air conditioner seemed to spread the odor, and I couldn’t clear it out. Sleeping was especially hard because of it. The floor felt sticky and as if it hadn’t been properly mopped, so I wore slippers the whole time. Highway Inn offers basic amenities at a reasonable price, but the smell, dirty floor, and inconsistent water pressure made my stay disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it, especially to anyone sensitive to odors or who wants clean surroundings.

I’m not usually picky, but this was one of my worst stays. The hallway already smelled strange, like a musty odor covered with disinfectant. Water pressure kept changing, and the heater made a loud noise like a lawn mower engine. The room, pillows, and mattress all smelled odd, so I had to open the window. I don’t think the sheets or blanket were clean, since I scratched all night. I could hear cockroaches at night, and the table looked ready to break. Agoda’s photos showed clean-looking beds and a toilet, but I guess that was only one room. If you’re only trying to save a few bucks, I’d pay RM100 for somewhere else, where I could sleep and use the toilet comfortably.
