The best thing here is the beachfront location, with a lovely sunset view and Pangkor Laut island across the water. The superior room was the cheapest option, and I wondered if it might actually have been the standard one. It had no sea view or balcony, just a wall. The bathroom was small, and a shower soaked the whole area. There was no bedside light, so reading or going to the bathroom at night was difficult. There were only six sunbeds by the pool, and none faced the beach or sunset, despite plenty of space. Breakfast was very average and seemed geared to Malaysian tastes, which I can understand as a visitor in their country. The tea and coffee weren’t good, nor was the cheap toast bread, marmalade or butter. They served noodles and rice, fried eggs, rice porridge and soup you could make yourself. There was also a changing vegetable option, like spring rolls. I’d suggest adding something sweet, like butter cake. The plugs were local ones, not international, but reception lent me an adaptor. They only had one. The hotel did clean my room while I had breakfast, so I could take a nap afterwards, which was nice. But when I ran out of tea bags, they didn’t leave any more. For the price, I don’t think it’s worth it. I’m sure there are more modern hotels nearby with sea views from the rooms. It seems oriented toward Malay guests rather than Westerners, and made for their tastes.

The room was smaller and much worse than I expected. All night, literally the whole night, there was a constant AC hum and events being held, so sleep was difficult. The staff gave good service, but the hotel was extremely poor in an emergency. My boyfriend fell ill around midnight, and I couldn’t find a single flyer or poster in the lobby with emergency numbers for the police, fire department or hospital. The location is fairly good, and the beachfront is beautiful, though there was some trash on it. It still wasn’t worth the price. I think you can find better value elsewhere than at Puteri Bayu. In short, find somewhere better.

Receptionists are the resort’s first point of contact, so it matters that they know how to greet and welcome guests. More training in communication and customer service may help. After a long journey, guests hope to feel welcome. If a request can’t be accommodated, staff should explain politely instead of just saying no. Starting with a simple “I’m sorry” can make a real difference. A warm, respectful approach reflects well on the resort and makes the experience better for everyone.

The hotel has a lot of potential. I’d suggest doing something with the empty space, which I think is a badminton court, perhaps adding an indoor play area for rainy days. We stayed three days and two nights. The location is great, right in front of the beach, and the room fit four people fine. The bed was okay and the air conditioning worked well. Water pressure was low but manageable, though the sink leaked so we stopped using it. Breakfast was just fine.

We had a nice one-night stay in the family villa. The beach is just a few steps away, though there weren’t many halal restaurants within walking distance. The front desk staff were helpful from arrival until we left. Breakfast buffet had good options, and it would be even better with an omelette station. It was a pleasant place for a short family getaway.
