Four Points by Sheraton Sandakan

That ocean view is impressive, and the staff were friendly. The rooms were fairly clean, though the WiFi only worked by the door, not throughout the room. There was no drinking water on tap, so we had to use the plastic bottles provided, which will end up in the sea. A hotel this important should address that ecological problem. Our first night, the room was nearly out of toilet paper and had no soap, so we called reception to bring some. The cleaning staff clearly hadn't done their job properly. The gym had no air conditioning and got terribly hot, its water tank was empty, and there were no weights under 4kg. Bathrobes in the rooms would make trips to the pool more comfortable, and the pool water was too cold.

I liked the hotel's location and the old Sandakan photos from the 1930s along the corridors. The room was spacious and clean, with French windows overlooking the ocean. There was just one chair in the sitting area, though, and the TV was small and outdated. The toiletries were very poor and the toilet paper was poor quality. Breakfast had a good range of choices, except for only one kind of cornflakes, and the coffee was very good. We were told when booking that the pool would be closed for renovation.

Breakfast could use improvement because the food was generally cold when it sat in the dispensers. The rooms are fantastic, with great harbour views, and the location is convenient if you want to walk along the pier for local market food. The pool is fantastic too, with lovely harbour views and sunsets. The gym is small, but better than nothing.

The attached big shopping mall and nearby places within walking distance made the location really attractive. The views were the highlight for us. My beloved wife was amazed by the window view, and the pool side view at night felt really romantic. The swimming pool was great, and my son enjoyed it very much. The rooms, lobby, and bed were clean and comfy, and the staff were helpful and cooperative. We tried a few foods there and thought they were awesome. I couldn't try the morning breakfast because it wasn't part of my room rate, and the price was too high for three people. Overall, we had a good stay and will come again.
