This is shared accommodation rather than a hotel, with common dining and open shared facilities. Our room 10 on the second level had its own bathroom and toilet. It came with towels, one toilet roll, bath and shampoo gels, and plenty of hangers. The air conditioning was reasonably cold, but the room wasn’t very soundproof: we could hear music from the neighboring house and pigeons cooing early in the morning. Since it’s not near the jetty, they provide a simple breakfast of bread, bee hoon, tea and coffee. Chinese food is hard to find here, while Malay food is plentiful. Guests can’t cook in the kitchen, and food and drinks are strictly not allowed in the room. You can book island hopping tours through the counter staff, who will refer you to a contact. There are two laundromats within walking distance. Complimentary car parking is outside the villa, but park at your own risk, and there’s no lighting at night. As soon as you drive out, you’ll notice it’s near a garbage collection point. It’s smelly and dirty. We disliked sharing the facilities with the China PRC guests. They were rude and loud, and I found them self-centered.

The room was clean, and we really enjoyed staying at the villas. The staff were kind and very helpful. They can arrange island tours too, and Seafest is only about 10 minutes away by Grab.

There’s plenty to use at this homestay, including guitars, a mahjong set and bicycles. Our room was comfortable and clean, with shampoo, shower gel and a water filter for refilling bottles. The staff were helpful as well. Nearby, there’s a launderette and Penang curry house, with good roti options and satay next door. One thing to be aware of: children around the local shops come up asking for money, which can feel confronting. Don’t give them money, though it’s okay to buy them food.

I booked late at night and they still made everything easy for me. The people who live there were so friendly and always ready to help. I had an amazing two-night stay at the villa, and loved the cats too. 5/5.

Alex and his team looked after us throughout our stay, arranging daily rides to the dive sites, shell out dinners, BBQ seafood meals and even hikes. Thanks, Alex, for having us! The homestay is clean, comfortable and relaxing, with a real home-away-from-home feel. It’s reasonably priced and good value. The location in Tawau is great for diving, about 10 minutes from the dive sites, and there’s a massage parlour, food centres and a big supermarket within walking distance.
