OYO Tawau Hospital Formerly Mangrove Hotel

I was looking for a simple place to rest on a budget, and the comfortable bed, working hot shower, and AC did the job. There was some wear and tear, but it didn't bother me much. My friend's room had a musty smell because it had no ventilation; my room's toilet did have ventilation. Both our doors seemed difficult to shut properly, which made us worry about safety, though we had no security problems or disturbances during our two nights. There's a 24-hour front desk, a shared iron, water refills in the common area, and a lift to each floor. A grocery store is nearby, and there's a food center downstairs for dinner, just across from the hotel. Thanks.

The hotel is run down and has clearly seen better days. Still, the bed was comfortable, the room was quiet, and the central location made it good value. For this price it met my needs, and I'd stay again, though not with my wife.

The beds were clean and the room had a bit of space, though the materials and fittings felt old. The shower was slow, too. It’s cheap if you book in person, and fine for a night when you need somewhere to stay.

I ended up having to stay because it was already late, and I’m still waiting to hear back from Agoda. I’d booked through them, but the hotel counter staff said they couldn’t refund me and I had to contact Agoda. The first room, 402, had mold all over the bathroom ceiling and a strong mold smell throughout. Everything looked dirty, including the walls, floor, and door. After I complained, I was moved to 502. That room was dirty too and smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, even though it was marked non-smoking. The toilet flush there was broken, which may be what caused the mold in 402.
