Richland Hotel

The customer service really wasn’t good. This place needs to do better.

I stayed at Richland Hotel for two weeks and chose the Deluxe A room, which cost 19,000 Naira a night in September 2024. For the price, it was a good-sized room and could comfortably fit two people. I’d checked other hotels nearby, including some with 45k rooms, and this was my top choice. Those rooms weren’t as large, and I didn’t think they were worth that price. Security was good, and being close to UCH was convenient. Most of the staff were friendly, especially Deborah, the receptionist who welcomed me. She’s cool. Quiet isn’t what you’ll get here. A mosque right beside or behind the hotel was disruptive through the night, especially on weekends, and a nearby church was noisy during the day on Sundays. It was extremely frustrating. I also saw a huge rat on my first night, and there were tiny cockroaches in the room despite fumigation. The AC only ran when there was power; when the generator was on, I could use the ceiling fan. There was no hot water. The bathrooms showed the age of the place, with rust, dirty walls, and no toilet seat cover, and they weren’t cleaned thoroughly. One receptionist, whose name I didn’t catch, wore glasses and was grumpy and rude. I never had a pleasant experience with her. For the price, my stay was fine and I got done what I came to the area to do. If I were looking to relax and explore, I wouldn’t choose this hotel. For serious business nearby and an okay place at a reasonable price, I’d consider returning.

The atmosphere was calm, and the staff were cheerful. Management seemed to be making an effort to keep water and hard-earned power available. The cleaning staff could use more training.

It’s a nice hotel for the money, and power stayed on all night with the AC available. At 8am they turn off the generator, so you’ll have to use the fan. For hot water, you need to call the kitchen. Outside of that, trust me, it’s nice and feels like home. The kitchen lady was super friendly with customers. Watch out for Nike at reception, though, she’s full of attitude.
