I stayed here again in June 2025, and the difference from my pre covid stay around 2019 was shocking. Back then, when it was Banex, the amenities seemed to work and service was satisfactory, and I would easily have given it three stars. This time almost everything was broken. The room door locks didn’t work, the old, dirty AC leaked water and looked like it could fall off the wall, and there was no remote for it. The TV had three large streaks across the screen, the hot water didn’t work, and water pressure was low, with a bucket provided. The bathroom and tub were dirty, the towel was stained, the safe was broken, and the cabinetry seemed to have been replaced with cheap materials. There were noises from nearby rooms and the corridor all night. Reception was so-so, and not as good as before. The deterioration was hard to understand. It was shockingly bad, and thankfully I was there only one night. I wondered if, when Banex changed management or was sold, the fittings were stripped out and replaced with cheap or broken items the new owner could find. That might have helped keep the price relatively low. Had I known how far the standard had fallen, I wouldn’t have stayed there. The hotel may be cheap for a reason. It’s not worth even one star.

Now Polax Hotel. It’s a quiet spot, and seems nice for events, with a service area.

I’ve stayed here many times, but this will be my last. Guests who want peace at night shouldn’t be kept awake close to midnight so another group can party, especially when the rooms aren’t soundproof. That doesn’t show much responsibility toward all your customers.

The staff were okay, and the outside of the hotel looks good. Inside, though, it needs a lot of renovation. In my room, the wooden floor kept giving way and the water heater didn’t work. The place needs an overall overhaul.

In Anthony, around the Maryland area, this is an affordable place to stay in the heart of Lagos. The environment is clean, and it has good amenities like a swimming pool, gym, restaurant, and bar. Always a great hotel for me.
