Maria and her family are wonderful! I felt safe in the neighborhood, and the central park is only an eight-minute walk away. There are great restaurants and bars around the park, too. I'll definitely stay here again when I'm back in Masaya.
The hosts made us feel like family, and the price is excellent for Masaya. It's a great base for backpackers exploring the country. Our room was a large private space with a queen-size bed, private bathroom, and a living room/kitchen.
The people are nice and helpful, and they speak English. Town is seven or eight blocks away, though the bus is cheap. It takes a little time to work out how things run here, but I like the place.
I expected a bed in a dorm, but ended up with a private room. I first came for the volcano, but the park was closed, so the owners suggested other places without pressuring me. I stayed and went to see the nearby lakes instead. Nice place, friendly owners.
The location and room space were good, the bathroom was decent, and the price was okay. We had a fan and mosquito net, both essential. But we didn't feel very comfortable over our six days. The old mattress springs hurt my back, and nobody offered to clean the room during our stay. There was only one chair on the balcony for our room, with no shaded outdoor place to relax. Under the metal roof and walls it got too hot to stay in the room during the day. They also charged us to heat water in their electric kettle for our own coffee or instant noodles, saying electricity costs a fortune. It's the only place we've been asked to pay just to heat water anywhere in the Americas.
