The owner was so sweet and keen to help me with my Spanish. We’ve stayed at this lovely, authentic family-run hotel several times and have enjoyed every visit. Sitting on the patio for the sunset views is great, and the pollo empanizado is excellent too.

The beach is an easy two-minute walk, and it’s a laid-back spot. If you’re after surfing, Maderas is only 3 kilometers away. The hostal’s patio has a lovely beach view, and it’s handy that you can order food whenever you want since the other hostals don’t serve it. The food is typical Nica fare and reasonably priced. Staff were alright.

The guys here were really friendly and helpful. After I lost my rental car keys at the beach in the middle of the night, people from the hostal and nearby came to help. I got a room at 0200 while I waited for the rental company to bring spare keys. The room and dining area were very clean, and there was warm water. The bed was acceptable for a beach hostal, and the breakfast they made me was very good.

We planned on five days and wound up staying eight. The rooms were clean, the patio was great, and I really liked the staff. I’d definitely come back.
