The location was good, and the room was quite cute. That was about it. The heater didn’t work, and the shower water wasn’t draining properly. They offered to fix the drainage, but we were only there for two nights and didn’t feel comfortable letting them into our room while we were out. They also couldn’t help when we asked for city information. With a late check-in there’s no receptionist, and we were left outside for a while before someone opened the door, which felt very strange. The worst part came at checkout, when they offered us €50 not to post this review. If you want a good stay, go elsewhere. Amsterdam is an amazing city, and you can find much better hotels at similar or even lower prices.

The Empiric Boutique Suites feels like our home away from home on trips to the Netherlands, and we’ve now stayed three times. Emely is kind and helpful, and makes a delicious breakfast. Our bed was grand and very comfortable, while the modern, spacious bathroom had a full shower and a separate bath, unlike what we’ve found in other European hotels or B&Bs. The modern, charming B&B is perfectly placed for exploring Amsterdam, with beautiful views of the Prinsengracht Canal. We’re always impressed and would highly recommend it. A cosy, pleasant place to spend time in Amsterdam, and the hosts were very nice. It was a bit hot on the day we arrived, though, and there wasn’t a fan. They also asked us to pay in cash, which caught us off guard. We had to withdraw money and ended up paying extra in international exchange fees.

The worst hotel I’ve ever been to. They threw us out late in the evening with our baby, in the rain, just because they don’t accept children. There was no door on the toilet.
