Hotel Not Hotel Amsterdam

The room had a creative design, with its door hidden in a bookshelf. But the ventilation for steam was almost nonexistent. Also, there was no toilet in the room. We saw that a shower was included and assumed that meant a toilet too, which was our mistake.

A decent, cheap hotel/hostel for recovering from jet lag, with funky decor. Some small repairs would help, but nothing serious was wrong. There's a 24-hour attendant, and all the staff I met were good. The neighborhood isn't a great part of town for tourists, though I felt safe enough. The tram is very close, and there's a "coffeeshop" next door if that's your thing.

We stayed four days, and the design and concept are cool, but a lot went wrong. The shared bathroom sink needed repair. Power in our room was cut after the front desk was moved to the space directly behind us, apparently because the wiring was connected there. We also had bed bugs. Judging by the reviews, I suspect the hotel hasn't fully treated the problem and is dealing with it room by room, so it seems uncertain which guests will get them. We did, and brought them back to Canada. We've been quoted thousands of dollars to treat the infestation at home. As we were leaving, a staff member gave me an email address to ask about compensation. I got no response. Don't stay here. The restaurant is worth visiting if you just want to enjoy the vibe.

The room was very clean and the bed super comfortable. The staff were fantastic, always friendly and helpful. What really left me wanting more was the amazing breakfast. I think that was the best egg and bacon I've ever eaten.
