The view over the Amstel, the Magere Brug, and all the boats passing by was magnificent. We booked this unique place in central Amsterdam as the setting for my proposal, and even as Amsterdammers we loved it. Everything was organized and in order, with beautiful finishes and all the equipment we needed. My girlfriend had no idea it was coming, and she was so stunned she talked about nothing else all afternoon. The breakfast, when ordered, was delicious too, with croissants, yogurt, and juice. The whole stay was a huge success. And yes, we're getting married :)

The boat captains made our Amsterdam visit stand out. They were warm and insightful, and chatting with them on the rides to and from the place really brought the city to life. We'd expected Amstelschutsluis itself to be memorable, and it was, the perfect little house on a lock. We travel a lot, but this visit will stay with us.

Even though we live in Amsterdam, staying here felt like being on holiday in our own city. The staff at SWEETS Hotels were so helpful, and they decorated the house beautifully for our special occasion. Such a special place in the middle of Amsterdam, it really is a must stay :)

We watched boats drift by from bed as we fell asleep, and the view was awesome. You can shut the shutters, though that kind of ruins the effect ;-) The house is gorgeous, tucked into the most isolated yet most central spot in Amsterdam. It's a great place for a special occasion. The kitchen is nice and cooking is possible, though we brought takeout.

Amstelschutsluis is one of the most magical places we've ever stayed overnight, truly impressive and a once-in-a-lifetime kind of place. It's tastefully decorated and has good facilities. But the hotel tried to charge 150EU for an extra return boat crossing of the canal, a trip of about 30m that takes less than a minute and is necessary to reach the building. After I protested, they lowered it to EU40 per trip, which was still outrageous. Even EU10 would've felt like a stretch. If I'd known beforehand, I wouldn't have booked. What kind of price is that supposed to be? It felt like a pretty shameless rip-off and really put a damper on the whole experience.
