Stayokay Eindhoven - Hostel

We used to stay at the blue collar once a year for work trips, and it was always pleasant and down to earth. This was our first visit since the management and name changed, and the decline was obvious in every way. The rooms used to be charming and minimal, but now they look cheap and tasteless. The garish wallpaper was random and DIRTY, despite the walls being perfectly nice and clean before. There were stains and spots on wipeable surfaces throughout the dirty place. The bathroom had no hand soap, and neither the hairdryer nor the wireless charger worked. The only other outlet was halfway up the wall, chest high, with no shelf or anywhere to put a phone. The atmosphere felt cold and loveless, and there were no vegan breakfast options. I tried to spend as little time in the room as possible. I won’t stay there again. It’s sad to see a sweet hotel become whatever this is now.

The employees were all smiling and ready to help, and the bar area was very nice. There was also a good breakfast selection. But think twice about staying in a pod: they’re uncomfortable, and there’s no control over who gets placed in the room. Some of the other people sharing mine were noisy and very dirty. You aren’t assigned a particular pod, either, so I spent ages looking for one. With some rules about room sharing and a better setup, this could be a nice stop for travelers using the airport, which is only a few bus stops away.

The location was excellent, just a few minutes on foot from a bus stop with service to and from the airport. Our spacious room had huge windows with curtains, a working TV, heating, lockers, and a private bathroom. We only stayed one night, but I wasn’t happy that the third bed was an uncomfortable couch.

For an affordable hostel, this is good value and worked well for an overnight stay before an early airport flight. The 401 bus stop is about 100 m away, and the rooms and facilities were clean. Our room for 12 was quiet and warm, maybe too warm. Staff were around in the evening and morning for the few things we needed. The stairs and area outside the rooms are unfinished concrete, so they’re not comfortable places to sit when stepping out to make a call or something. There’s a bar by the entrance, though I didn’t go in.
