Fletcher Duinhotel Burgh Haamstede

We had a great stay. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and kindly spoke English with us. Our room was spacious and very clean, with a huge bathroom that had both a separate bath and shower. The breakfast buffet had loads of choices. The weather was good, so we could eat out on the terrace too.

The people were friendly and trying their best, and the service itself was good, but that didn’t make up for the rest. Our mixed grill was tiny, the meat wasn’t tender, and while it was edible, it didn’t look appealing. I think the cook may have been inexperienced. The receptionist and waitress also seemed a bit inexperienced, though neither spoke Dutch and that wasn’t a problem for us. The room looked nice, but some details weren’t up to what I’d expect of a four-star restaurant. The handheld shower head was showing signs of rust and had quite a bit of limescale, an easy thing to clean. The beds were made neatly, but we’d ordered an extra bed and they used the fold-out sofa without unfolding it, just laid sheets over the sitting area. It would be an okay hotel and restaurant if it were two stars.

Cleanliness doesn’t seem to be this hotel’s strongest point, based on my experience. I stayed there twice last week, with five days between visits. The first time, I found a full ashtray by my room door. When I came back five days later, it was still there.

The rooms are a little dated in design, but they’re quite spacious. The hotel is clean and nicely located near the beach, making it a decent place to stay while enjoying the area.
