Bed & Breakfast 1001 Nacht

I had the premium studio and thought it was beautiful, spacious, and reasonably clean, right in the center of Haarlem. I did find a few things around and underneath the bed, so that part could use a little more attention. I don’t understand the negative reviews, though. Maybe they’re about other apartments in the same building.

The staff were lovely and had good suggestions for restaurants and bars. Just be aware that the pubs nearby get crowded, so earplugs are useful. The hotel provides them. It’s a charming Bed & Breakfast in the middle of town, in a typical Dutch house with a narrow staircase. The bathroom was large and new.

The shower floods the bathroom because there’s no curtain or raised edge on the floor. They even provide a long-handled mop for dealing with the water. The beds are also awful: narrow single mattresses made of cheap foam, badly worn, and easy to roll off unless you stay right in the middle. We also ended up with flea or bed bug bites. We spent three nights here and I’m exhausted. The heat, beds, and noise made it impossible to rest. Opening the windows might help with the stuffy air, but the pubs next door were noisy until 4am on two nights and 2am on Sunday. With the windows shut, it was still loud and the room got stuffy. The fan was poor and couldn’t handle four people. We had to turn white noise up on YouTube to cover the drunken parties in the street, about 4m from the bed. It looks OK at first, but was extremely uncomfortable. Definitely avoid.

We stayed at the newer of this B&B’s two locations. The rooms were lovely, and breakfast was really nice, with great coffee options. The decor felt modern and tasteful, with Turkish artwork. The hosts were very friendly, and we had a lovely stay.
